No matter the job, everyone deserves respect. You can tell a lot about a person simply by observing the way they treat people in the service industry. The way someone treats others in jobs that society has deemed less glamorous may be a sign of their true character; here are some things to look for the next time you’re out with someone.
PAY ATTENTION TO HOW THEY TREAT SERVERS/WAITERS
Whether someone is a CEO or a food runner, everyone has struggles in life and everyone deserves respect. When a server takes an order, is the person you’re with polite with words, or do they condescendingly order the server around. Does he/she view someone with a less attractive job as an equal, worthy of an opinion and respect, or do they turn their noses to them. Pay attention the next time you’re out and see how someone acts. If they’re not respecting the servers, it could mean that their friendly persona is just a façade.
ARE THEY RESPECTFUL TO THE UBER/LYFT DRIVER
It is not their car. And as such, they shouldn’t act like it is. Do they demand to use the charger? Do they change the music without first asking for permission? Do they even acknowledge the driver and say hello? Yes, the driver is there to help, but they shouldn’t assume that it’s all about them, if they do, then you’re in for some trouble my good friend.
BAR ETIQUETTE
Yes, everyone is happy to be out. Yes, sometimes the line at the bar is longer than expected. Yes, maybe their buzz is waning. No, they shouldn’t act like an entitled brat. Everyone is out looking for a good time, but they still have to wait their turn. Next time you’re out on a date, pay attention to the way they order. Do they snap their fingers? Do they push their way through people and skip the queue? How patient are they? How they carry themselves when under the influence is an indication of who they may be so be perceptive.
