This one takes time; a lot of time. And the worst part is you’re probably going to get it wrong; many times. But to be a man you must know what you’re actually good at. What is it that makes you different than others? What sets you apart in this world? Discovering what you’re good at and working towards improving that end is the key to success. So if you’re looking to restart your life, ask yourself these three questions to help you discover what it is you’re truly good at.
WHAT SET YOU APART AS A CHILD?
The saying that children always tell the truth could be true, because maybe the negatives of society generally haven’t affected children yet. The worries of life haven’t settled in, so in turn, they can make decisions based purely on preference with little noise from the outside. So try your best to remember. What set you apart as a child? When a teacher asked for volunteers, were you the first to do so? What were your favorite classes? Why? Were you naturally inclined to help people or to lead people? Think about these questions for a bit the next time you’re having your coffee, write them down, and then see where it leads you.
WHAT DO YOU READ AND WATCH ON THE INTERNET?
What you read on the Internet is usually a strong sign of what your interests truly are. Are you reading a lot about current events and politics? Are you analyzing sports scores? Are you watching cooking shows? If you’re reading about certain subjects and topics often, you are indirectly developing expertise on that particular topic. As such, what you read and watch on the Internet could help you focus on what you may be good at.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO THINK ABOUT MONEY
You can never ever win the rat race. How much do you stand to lose if you quit the job you hated and just did something you loved? What would it take for you to do something that you are actually good at or would love to learn more about? What would you do if money weren’t a factor?
Your salary could be high, but are you sacrificing your peak years for it? What would you really do if you didn’t have to worry about the monetary aspect? Maybe the city you’re living in is too expensive? Maybe the country you’re living in doesn’t have the same opportunities? Maybe you’re just keeping up with the Jones’ and never really attaining anything? Think about it. What would you do if money weren’t a factor? Do something you like and then try and be the best at what that one thing. Once you figure that out, the rest is just hard work and dedication.
