There is more to being a man than just muscle and machismo. Whether you’re a white collared executive or a blue collared coal miner, chivalry is colorblind and you should be too. So forget what the President says and treat women right! Here are a few simple steps that will set you apart from Mr. Average Joe.
OPEN DOORS
It gives you a chance to flex your biceps and triceps. Kidding. Opening doors for someone is a sign of respect and adoration. It shows that you care about someone else’s convenience over yours, and even this little bit of effort can indicate that you’re sensitive and caring. So whether you’re opening the door for your girlfriend, your dad, your loving grandma, or even a stranger, open doors and make it a habit, then see what happens. Trust us.
HOLD UMBRELLAS
Rain is only romantic when you’re warm, dry, and drinking a pot of strong coffee. Almost any other time, rain isn’t romantic. Holding umbrellas can be cumbersome and annoying, so why not alleviate said annoyance and hold the umbrella for her? Let her worry about something else and take care of this simple task. Better yet, hold the umbrella and offer her your arm, that way you can flex your bicep too!
OFFER TO TAKE/DRIVE HER HOME
This one takes a bit of practice so do not be offended if she politely declines. 21st century dating doesn’t really call for you to take her home anymore, as nowadays people live so far apart it doesn’t make much logistical sense, especially if you’re living in the city. If however, you are driving to a date, then make sure you offer to pick her up and drop her off.
SERVE HER FOOD FIRST
Picture this. You’re eating dinner with a bunch of people and when the food comes you’re the first one to eat. What would people think? Now picture this! You’re eating dinner with a bunch of people and when the food comes you serve the ladies first. Which would you rather be? It can be hard sometimes because you’re starving, but push aside your hunger for a few more minutes and make yourself look good.
LET HER SIT ON THE INSIDE
This is especially important when you’re eating dinner. Let her sit on the inside. The view is better, there is less movement around her, and it just feels more comfortable.
Practice these basic principles of chivalry on your friends and family, then one the day comes when you go out with someone you like, all this will be like second nature!
